Tuesdays With Dorie: White Loaves

I am *thrilled* to be included in a group of bakers as we journey through Baking With Julia, by Dorie Greenspan.  I know this will be a stretch for me in many regards, but I'm up for the challenge!  Knowing there are other bakers with as much (or as little??) experience as me, baking the same recipes as me, having the same struggles as me, helps me feel courageous and ready for the experience.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, you can read about the history of Tuesdays with Dorie here on the Tuesdays with Dorie blog.  What a fun idea, huh??

Here is my first TWD recipe:   White Loaves!

This was my second go at the recipe.  The first loaves turned out yummy as well, but I didn't let them rise long enough (ya know.....kids had somewhere to be or something).  The second time I had plenty of time to let the yeast do it's magic, so the loaves rose slowly and beautifully.  The result was tender, soft bread, which we devoured in a matter of a few days.  This bread is SO delicious with a schmere of butter and jam, but we also enjoyed making grilled cheese and paninis with it.  It's sturdy enough to make a "man sandwich"---haha.  :)

If you're interested in the cookbook we're working through on Tuesdays With Dorie, you can see it here.  It's a beautiful book, with gorgeous recipes!  Yes, some are intimidating, but the instructions are easy to understand.  I'm so excited for this adventure!

  1. Your bread turned out beautiful! And I must say you are an awesome baker to boot. I absolutely love the pirate cake!! I used to make cakes a lot when our daughter was young. So fun isn't it?

The link didn't work but I searched amazon and found Baking: From My Home to Yours by DG. Is that it? Cover is lovely. I read some of the reviews, very cute. Sounds like this is perfect for you.

The book you looked at is another cookbook by Dorie Greenspan, and the first one the Tuesdays With Dorie baking group worked through. :)
